The only reason we trekked up the Potomac River was to see our friends and it was so entirely worth it. I got to see some of my old Marine Corps friends and we were able to visit with our friends further up the river as well. The other night we had dinner with three of the nicest people we could ever hope to be friends with, Doug & Tina, and Pamela.
Tina is a world class chef and we eat like royalty every time we are together. Salmon and pesto on puff pastry with butternut mac and cheese, a magnificent salad and wine of course.
A fantastic night. Tanya, Doug, Pamela, Tina:
“Other Things”
These are things we do not want to talk about. I believe that if we ignore things they go away, Tanya does not. Well hurricane Sandy is barreling up the east coast and is forecast to make a left turn and ruin our time here in DC.
The mud here in the channel is very soft and a storm anchor would be nice. I wish we had a storm anchor, like this one:
Oh wait, actually we do have a storm anchor exactly like this one! Tanya’s father gave us this 80 pound storm anchor for a bon voyage gift and it disassembles into three pieces for easy storage. At the time the topic of conversation revolved around “hoping you never need it but good to know you have it.” Well two months into our cruising life we do in fact need it! It’s very easy to assemble and we deployed it this afternoon in preparation for Sandy’s arrival. We brought it out on the foredeck, lifted our primary anchor, swapped the chain to the storm anchor and dropped it over the side. The anchor set instantly, we backed down on it several times and left the boat in reverse for several minutes, she did not move an inch. I think the rode (chain/rope) would snap before the anchor would drag.
We wanted a picture of the splash as she entered the water but there was just too much going on at the time! It was a nice splash though!
Can’t thank you enough Bob!
