We are still in Hampton VA, it’s a great place. We are in the municipal marina because it is right downtown and so inexpensive. A marina for us is between $80 and $120 a night, the Hampton Public Piers was $114 for three nights!! We thought we would be hit with another huge storm but it passed us by, oh well! We have been hooked up to shore power, watched the election with our friends Michel and Monique from SV Zen, hit the Air and Space Museum, shopped at Super Walmart, refilled our water and propane tanks, cleaned the boat, did laundry, and changed the oil in the engine. Wow what decadence!
Shopping! We split a cab with Michel and Monique to get to Super Walmart:
Zen left this morning:
We also had our first “repair”, the main topping lift block. The little sheave (pulley) disintigrated and had to be replaced:
Of course one of the screws snapped off and the holes did not line up:
Done. Now we can raise and lower the main boom again:
Oil change. This municipal marina is so great they even took our used oil:

We are planning to depart tomorrow morning and hope to be in the Dismal Swamp by nightfall.
Looks like you made good use of the shore time. Also nice to run in to old friends. I am sure there will be many other times in your travels.
As you know you can never find the piece of gear that will go right where the olkd one was. The repair looks fine and most of all it works.
I see you choose the Dismall Swamp route. That will show me new pictures of the place. Looking forward to them.
Have fun and be safe.
Love ya
Yes it was nice to have access to all this “stuff”, but we both agree that it is more fun to anchor out. The repair went well because I expected something would go wrong. It wasn’t bad, just had to drill new holes, tap them and install the new block. I used anti-seize so if I ever have to replace it I will not be fighting with the screws again. We hope to be through the first lock on the Dismal Swamp and tied up to the visitors center, just north of the south lock, by 3:30pm. Great to hear from you!
why named “dismal swamp?”
…because only 1 in 10 make it out alive!! MUUUUhahahahahaha!
No seriously, I don’t know. I’ll find out and post the link.
