Long Island

Posted by on February 6, 2015

Georgetown (Exuma) is a nice place, plenty to see and do, but we get the urge to leave pretty quickly. A couple of days ago we pulled anchor bright and early, rode an outgoing tide out the south end of the harbor and a few hours later dropped anchor in Thompson Bay Long Island. We cleaned up the boat right away so we could enjoy the beautiful sunset. Thompson Bay is huge and offers excellent protection from all but southwest winds. We have had some really strong winds here, gusts close to 30, but no more than ripples on the water, very nice! If all goes well we will depart for the Jumentos in a few days.

Yep, sometimes you just have to motor:

But it’s worth it when you get there:

It’s not all fun and games. The winds dropped almost completely so we left the cruiser’s beach greet and meet early to run back and fix the head sail:

We worked “so hard” on the head sail we thought we deserved a break. Conch burger and grouper fingers with fries and a couple of beers:

There is no phone or internet in the Jumentos, they are almost entirely uninhabited islands. We will still have email and position reporting via HF radio but that is it. Until then, we’re hanging out waiting for this front to blow through then we are off!

You guys are looking good. We on the other hand are expecting just a little more snow over the next few days. Just a dusting though.
    Love ya,
