We Made It!

Posted by on February 7, 2013

We made it! We are in Green Turtle Cay (key) Abaco Bahamas! We checked in with customs and immigration a few hours ago, raised our Bahamas courtesy flag, so now we are free to roam!

We left West Palm Beach at about 0400 on the 5th, crossed the gulf stream and entered the Little Bahama Banks anchoring at Great Sale Cay. From Great Sale we headed east and anchored again off of Crab Cay. We left Crab Cay this morning and made it to Green Turtle Cay!

We were able to watch the Superbowl before we left and were happy with the outcome. This is a picture of the huge projection screen TV on top of the yacht across from us in West Palm Beach:

Beautiful sunrise crossing the gulf stream:

We were able to sail a little bit:

Actually the winds picked up quite a bit the last few miles of the gulf stream and the first mile or two on the banks. Almost got the rail in the water a couple of times:

The water is over 2000 feet deep in the gulf stream and in less than half a mile the depth comes up to 15 feet on the banks. Water temp in the gulf stream was 79 degrees. Out in the distance you can see the turquoise waters of the Little Bahama Banks:

Looking back at the deep blue of the gulf stream:

Realization of a dream!!

Splash:

We have lots more pictures but unfortunately conch fritters and cool tropical drinks await. We will finish this update tomorrow or…the next day…

Great shots of the water changing colors. I remember it well but only from the deck of a merchant ship. Never did get North Star there. I am really enjoying it through you guys though. Love ya!
