We planned for a short second day so we slept in a bit, awoke to sunshine and deer walking on the beach. We had some breakfast, reviewed our plan and got underway. It was very windy, 15-20 knots with gusts to 25, and very choppy confused seas. We took a few waves over the bow and a few crashed over the side sending a nice spray of water everywhere, a couple of waves tried to make it into the cockpit. I tried taking pictures of the waves encroaching on our stern but they don’t really show much. The boat was rocking and rolling the whole day, it was a blast!
Motoring out of Still Pond:
Waves inches under the toe rail:
The closer we got to the C&D canal the more barge traffic we encountered:
We had the head sail and mizzen up most of the day. As we approached the canal the seas became almost calm even though the winds remained high. At times we rocketed along at over seven knots!
Entrance to Chesapeake City anchorage:
We opted to bypass Chesapeake City and stay at Summit North Marina which is almost at the mid point of the canal.
If all goes well we should be in Cape May by tomorrow night.
