Back in Wiscasset

We’re back in Wiscasset!

We had a great time in Tenant’s Harbor. We decided to sail back to Boothbay Harbor on Friday and Wiscasset on Saturday. We sailed for four hours on Friday! Then about 5pm the wind died and we had to motor into Boothbay. Awesome day!

It was “expensive boat” weekend in Boothbay Harbor. There were several mega-yachts there one of which was a huge sailboat. Unfortunately it left before we could get any close up pictures.

More to our liking:

We rounded the northern tip of Westport Island heading into Wiscasset. Newvida at the town dock:

Now she’s anchored in Wiscasset Harbor:

We had a great trip, perfect weather, great sailing, beautiful scenery and each other! We have a few boat chores to attend to then we’ll be off again!

Tenant’s Harbor

We had a nice time in Port Clyde. While there we saw a bald eagle chasing an osprey, the osprey was clutching a small fish, it was quite a dog fight.

Best I could do with a tiny auto focus camera:

The Schooner Heritage anchored just behind us:

After leaving Port Clyde we headed out into the Gulf of Maine for a sail! Wow what a day, we sailed for HOURS with no engine!!! Winds 12 to 17 knots, all the sails up, we hit 7.5 knots, awesome sailing!

Then we did a 180 and headed to Tenants Harbor. We had a great sail right up to the mouth of the harbor:

We ate dinner at a place called Cod End right next to the town dock:

The food was so fresh, and delicious. Fish, clams, shrimp, fries and beer:

We are anchored in Long Cove and it’s a beautiful night!!

We went through our first swing bridge!

Schooner (one of many) leaving Boothbay Harbor:

First Trip

We took a three day trip down the Sheepscot River and into the bay. Along the way we activated all the systems in order to find any problems. Everything on board from water to electronics was turned on, everything we could use we used. We found a few small problems, a couple of quirks, but most importantly we learned how to use all of our new equipment.

Departing, between Fort Edgecomb and North end of Westport Island:

Heading down the river, zero wind!

Heading East into the Cross River and Ovens Mouth, South of Edgecomb, North of Barter’s Island. Really beautiful spot way down in (check the map tab):

Seal swimming by:

Out in the Sheepscot Bay East of Sequin Island. Got all the sails up, tuned (tightened) the rigging and just enjoyed a peaceful sail with no engine:

Then we had lobsters of course!

We’re taking another trip in a few days, probably to Rockland or…who knows??
