We’re Aboard!

We have been living on the boat for about a week now but had a few tasks to take care of just prior to moving aboard.

Bob installed all the mechanical (Sta-Lok) fittings on our new rigging!

Then we installed it on the boat:

The rigging holds up the masts. It’s feels good to have new rigging!

All the sails and sail covers are on. Bob and Joan installed our reef lines:

Looking like a sailing vessel again:

Well then we installed the head (toilet) and of course that didn’t work. Rebuilding the head, mmm super fun job:

Then we had to install the holding tank (like a septic tank) and all the associated plumbing:

Tanya painted everything. What a huge difference, butterscotch to white:

Joan recovered our seat at the nav station, by hand!!!! Awesome Job:

Looking good:

Little bit of a smile:

We took a three day trip down the river to check everything out and tune our rigging. Post and pictures to follow!

So Close, Almost There!

It’s a mad push to finish up and move aboard. We should be living aboard in a week! We have come so far (with a tremendous amount of help) and we are almost finished. We have electricity, we have water, and that leaves…you know…

Quick recap. We ripped out the rotted butterscotch ceiling panels, insulated the ceiling, then installed white panels to lighten up the galley and saloon:

Once the panels are in we installed the wood trim around the companionways and hatches:

We also installed the lights, they’re combination white and blue:

Ceiling is done, trim is in. Wired the fans also. The white ceiling makes a huge difference:

We have running water! And beneath that we have a new counter top!

The counter top installation was a bit of a chore but it came out quite nice:

Fridge freezer and sink cut outs:

Fridge and freezer covered:

Galley when we bought the boat in 2007:

Galley now. Cleaned, varnished, new ceiling, new ports, new hatches, new lights, fridge and freezer etc. We love it:

We installed these really nice LED strip lights everywhere, they are warm white and really light up the area while using a tenth of the electricity:

We installed bright white LED tape lights in the fridge and freezer:

Fridge is working perfectly:

Freshly cleaned and varnished engine cover. Still needs a little adjustment but it’s in:

Generator control panel is installed:

We installed new lights (blue and white) throughout the boat. New light above the nav station:

New Garhauer blocks for the main sheet:

In between squalls we got the genoa sail up tonight, that makes two out of three:

We installed our dinghy davits, four solar panels and charge controller, free electricity!! Also mounted our little Furuno gps antenna:

This is just the highlights from what we (and others) have been up to. We should be living aboard in a few days!

Generator Runs!

Still knocking tasks off the project list! Here is a sample of today’s list:

Applied second coat of varnish to all exterior wood.

Sanded and varnished forward companionway trim.

Installed aft companionway trim.

Painted engine compartment wall.

Installed interior trim panels around chain plates inside cabin (the part below deck).

Removed spinnaker pole fitting from deck (to install at base of main mast).

Wired water heater.

Wired depth sounder (we can tell how deep the water is now).

Ran VHF radio antenna cable.

Routed generator battery cables.

Primed generator fuel system.

Started generator for the first time.

…Chinese for dinner…mmmmm…and beer…mmmmmmmm

Generator Bob installed last year:

Filled generator fuel filter with fresh fuel, just part of the priming task:

Tanya, 10mm wrench in hand, getting ready to start our generator for the first time. The engine fired up and runs like a charm!!

I think she’ll be really happy to just be a “girl” again.

I promised her it will happen!

Update

We’re knocking tasks off the project list one by one and making progress. We write down everything we work on so we know what we’ve done at the end of the day, otherwise we would forget (tired you know!). Unfortunately we left the notebook on the boat but here are some pictures Tanya took today.

We finally got the boat name and hailing port on the boat:

Finished insulating and reinstalling overhead panels and trim in the V berth:

We got the wind generator mounted. Bob wired it then we installed it up on our custom made mount. Getting ready to go up the mast:

 going up:

Wind generator is mounted minus the blades:

Up come the hub and blades. We purchased “silent” blades because this model generator is quite noisy with the stock blades.

Done. We’re quite happy with the new blades, very quiet:

Here is the control panel that Bob made:

We have got quite a bit done, pages of tasks either worked on or completed, unfortunately we haven’t taken many pictures.

More to follow…
