Departed-Arrived!

Under overcast skies, drizzle and rain, and temps in the 40s we departed hell. The alarm went off at 0530, we jumped up and readied the boat. In contrast with the previous day it was almost completely calm so we decided to bend on the head sail. Up went the sail, we forgot to unfurl the furler line, down came the sail, out came the furler line, up went the sail…again, done. Engine started, last minute checks complete, untied the dock lines and departed at 0639…not too bad! The marine forecast was calling for winds SSE 15-20 knots gust to 25 with four foot seas, actual winds were less than seven knots and seas were one-two feet, real nice sea state which made for a real nice ride!

Departed this place:

See ya!

Cold but having fun:

Dreary:

We hooked our gps to the laptop and fired up the nav software which worked perfectly, radar worked well also:

Sail out:

Arrived:

We’re here for the next few weeks while we pack up, complete the sale of the house and get some boat work done. We plan on departing for Maine around the first of June. More later!

It was not meant to be…today…

We readied the boat, set the alarm for 0500 and hit the rack. Well at 0500 the weather forecast had not changed a bit, NNW winds 25 knots gusting to 30 and waves 4 to 5 feet. Since we were heading NNW that made the trip a no go, so another couple of days in hell before we return to civilization. We spent the day cleaning, adjusting things, connected the radar and it works, flushed the water tanks, tested the tricolor and anchor lights-awesome, put on the mizzen sail and the dodger etc. The boat is starting to become habitable and we are actually having a good time!

Weather for tomorrow is rain and 40’s, Saturday through Monday is SOUTH WINDS with temps in the upper 70’s or higher, sleigh ride!!!

Real Progress!

The boat went in the water last Friday, weather forecast for Monday was terrible but turned out to be perfect. Monday afternoon the Marina started back pedaling on our plan to step the masts Tuesday, I had enough. Long story short I held my ground and the masts went on today! It was a truly action packed day but there was way to much going on to snap those action photos, all I got was the end result. Nothing would have happened today with out help from some wonderful random people that just stopped to help, actually I think they heard the circus music starting to play and that may have grabbed their attention. Lynn and her husband dropped what they were doing on their own boat to help, Tom randomly driving by pulled everything together, Mike yanked me up the mizzen, and Bobby did a great job on the crane! Would also like to thank Ray on Ketch-Ya-Later for his help with lines and rigging! We really appreciate all the help!!!

One more time…

Moved her into a covered slip for the weekend:

Really high tide, the water came up over the dock:

Repositioned on Monday, look how calm it was, would have been a perfect day to step the masts:

Tuesday AM moved into position to step the mizzen:

Are we going to step the masts today? “wait, let me see if the crane will start”:

POW, mizzen on, just like that:

Hey what’s that over there??  BA-BAM, oh you missed it, main mast is on:

After we shimmed the mast and tightenend shrouds and stays Mike helped me move her out to a slip:

Looks like a real sailboat again, almost, still have some work to do but we’re getting there:

We’re headed back to the boat tomorrow in preparation for a Thursday departure for Herrington Harbor. Will update more when we get some internet signal.

In The Water!

We are in the water, no joke! Everything went well this morning and the bilge is bone dry. The engine fired right up and everything worked perfectly, we actually received several comments on how nice the engine sounds. The winds were up a bit today so we will have to wait until next week to get the masts in, so I am told. I moved the boat into a covered slip for the weekend and gave her a good wash down. I left my camera on the boat so I will add details and a few pictures soon. The weather forecast for tomorrow is dismal so we are sticking around here then heading to the boat on Sunday. Have a great weekend!

Wiring and Weather

We ran to the boat long enough for Bob to install a terminal strip for the mast wiring and wind instrument and run the wire for the tricolor light:

He also installed connectors on all of the mast wiring but we forgot to snap a pic…

The weather has been working (plotting) against us for weeks now. Whether the weather is perfect when we are unable to launch, horrible when we ARE able to launch, or I am under the weather when there is work to be done, it’s always against us! Thanks for picking up the slack Bob!!
